Positive: It was close to the airport, so convenient to get to and from there and also on a bus route. It was also quite modern, with Netflix, a fridge, and a toaster

Negative: The main issue is what others have said and I unfortunately was unaware until after check-in. There’s nothing on the listing to indicate how the host expects payment - they didn’t tell us after booking, and also failed to mention it when I met them personally during check-in. It wasn’t until we returned our car and had been there a few hours that he messaged wanting cash or bank transfer as they apparently had no EFTPOS machine to charge the card. Booking.com can supposedly facilitate payments and bank transfer to them, so I don’t see why that would have been an issue had they chosen to allow prepayment. It put me in an incredibly awkward position as I had a really early flight, no car, no physical cash, and it was already getting to late evening so I couldn’t find alternative accommodation. The bank transfer cost me a delivery fee, so I’ve actually had to pay more than stated on the booking - future guests also need to be aware that exchange rates may change, so if they’re sending the amount in NZD it could very well be different to the booking cost. I think this should be clearly outlined on the listing as I’d have chosen elsewhere had I known about this. Some of the things on the listing also weren’t provided - we asked how to get to the airport and no shuttle service was offered, we were told we could get an Uber but that costed a ridiculous amount for under a 10 minute drive. There’s also no off-street parking - it’s a quiet street so not an issue, but it’s inaccurate. The front door had no curtain over it and you can see right into the room when the light is on, and the couch and bed are directly in front of the door.
