Other things to note
***Important Information to Note***
The Ruataniwha Hut offers a simple, minimalistic experience without unnecessary distractions or conveniences. Despite being only 15 minutes away from Twizel, it may feel remote. Due to its location near the Southern Alps weather and environmental conditions can change quickly. Guests should be aware that snow, heat, winds, wildlife, and insects are all part of the high country experience. While the hut is comfortable and cozy, it may not be suitable for guests who are uncomfortable with any of these factors.
While there is Wi-Fi and cell coverage it may be variable due to the hut's relatively remote location, but guests are assured they won't miss it.
Winter:
During winter, roads in the area may be icy, and significant snowfall and rain are common. Guests are responsible for checking road and weather conditions before traveling.
The log burner is the primary source of heat during winter, and guests are advised to read the instructions before using it.
Summer:
There is no air conditioning in the hut, and temperatures may rise during the summer afternoons. However, opening the doors, windows, and skylights will help cool the hut down. Guests can also take a refreshing dip in the glacier-fed waters of Lake Ohau.
Additional Information:
Please take care when climbing up and down the steep stairs to the loft. There is no dishwasher in the hut, and while children are welcome to stay, parents should be aware that there is no fire guard around the log burner and steep stairs to the loft.
