The Henry Matthews Apartment is named and themed around early settlers George and Eliza Matthews whoin 1851 established a commercial plant nursery. In the following years, their son Henry led the business and furthered his career in horticulture and forestry.
Henry Matthews interiors are designed with the colours of nature in the urban environment. It mixes arts & craft, nouveau & deco, and earthy colours. Offering different views of Dunedin as the “Romantic City in which the classical formality of the built environment is offset by the wildness of area’s rugged topography ‘striking sparks between order and nature’.”

Summary: Wonderfully appointed apartment, with all modern amenities. Tons of restaurants and attractions at the doorstep, but the apartments feel tucked away and offer a quiet respite from the din of activities. Comfortable beds, well stocked kitchens, and thoughtful extras made for an excellent stay. The apartments are best suited for 1-4 adults, as the bedrooms and bathrooms are a bit tight on both space and storage, and each bedroom has open loft windows/shutters to the main sitting area - charming for us, but may not be agreeable for light sleepers. Overall, lovely and charming and we hope to stay again!
