The Mermaid Beach House at Kaka Point overlooks gorgeous Molyneux Bay and Bates Beach. This tidy and comfortable beach house has sunny indoor and outdoor living spaces. There are ocean views from the large deck, living area and two bedrooms. The private yard with native bush is perfect for exploring.

This warm and tidy house has sunny indoor and outdoor living spaces with great ocean views. The living room and master bedroom open onto a large deck through bifold doors. The third bedroom has a private entrance and ocean views. The large, private, fully fenced section has lawn and native bush to explore. The bathroom features a wet floor shower and gas hot water.

A short five minute walk gets you to the patrolled swimming beach or Bates Beach, with rock pools to explore. It is only a two minute walk to the sheltered bush track trailhead. The property is within a five minute walk to the cafe / pub and two playgrounds. A short drive takes you to the Nuggets Lighthouse and Wildlife Reserve, or get a closer look and paddle around this rugged beauty with Catlins Kayak & Adventure.

When the sun isn’t shining, there are books, DVDs and games to play by the fire (please note there is no Wifi or TV reception). Or, go check out The Catlins Brewery (by appointment only). You could take a drive down the coast to Purakanui Falls, Maclean Falls, Cathedral Caves and and more that The Catlins has to offer. Owaka (the gateway to The Catlins) is 15 minutes away and has shops, great coffee and an excellent museum of the local area.

The small, cosy town of Balclutha is a 15 minute drive north and will provide all the services and shopping you might need to enjoy your stay.

Summary: Louise was good to communicate with and despite unexpected repairs needed at the property was accomadating to ensure our stay could go ahead. A lovely place to stay, cozy with the fire and child friendly, our 3 year old delighted in the toys and learning to use a dvd player on the cold day and the nice day had lots of fun playing at the beach! The walk to the lighthouse is a bit heart stopping with a young child, thankfully dad carried him most of the way! Would definitely come back and highly recommend as a place to stay.
