Main beach vehicle and pedestrian access less than 300 metres away. Cars and quad bikes are allowed on the beach.
The Seashell is a very short stroll away from the Beachside Bar and Eatery, the Four Square dairy which sells 'everything' including coffee, ice-cream, tasty NZ pies and fresh bread. The friendly Club Waitārere (aka the bowling club) does a great meal on a Friday night. Wander into the Josef Kieninger Gallery, and to the gift shop.
Visit the historic site of the grounding of ship the Hydrabad down the beach and check out Middle Earth which is an unofficial and secret children's playground situated in the forest at the southern end of Waitārere.
Enjoy swimming with surf lifesaving patrols operating in the summer months.
Waitārere has 2 large forestry areas accessible to the public, and vehicles can access/are permitted on the beach.
