For more information, see our detailed website/blog: www.timbertrailcentre.co.nz.
THE TIMBER TRAIL CENTRE We are hidden deep in the New Zealand countryside, next to a trout-filled river on one side and an eel-filled stream on the other. Set in 1.5 hectares (3 acres) of orchards and gardens are:
- the 100-year old Miller's House, our main accommodation for guests
- a 120-year old native timber School House, with pool table, recreational area and library (which guests have access to), and
- a 140-year old native timber Church, the oldest building in this part of NZ (which the owners live in, but which can also be rented out)
RECREATION There are many fun things to do in our immediate vicinity, apart from the famous Timber Trail Cycleway ... from kayaking, river jet-boating, to fishing to swimming in the 70-metre swimming hole near the Centre, visits to the nearby Alpaca Farm and Lavender Farm, to cycling or just having a soak in the 10-person hot tub. Next door is the start of the Forgotten World Adventures Rail Trail and up to 4-day kayak trips down the stunning Waikato River. Further afield (all within about an hour) are the stunning Waitomo Caves, Lake Taupo, geothermal hot pools and the Tongariro National Park with its many walks (such as The Crossing), elegant restaurants at The Chateau and ski-fields, with spectacular views across the Central North Island.
