Ruru is tastefully built in sustainably harvested native timbers and macrocarpa. It is snugly tucked on a stream confluence at the foot of Kahurangi National Park and enjoys a rich "dawn chorus" and "morepork" (native owl) song in the evenings.
A great log fire warms you on cooler evenings and a streamside bush bath awaits you after your day walking, horse trekking or finishing the Heaphy Track.

Summary: Lovely off the beaten track spot to stay while visiting Farewell Spit. Cute little cottage with everything you need for a night or two stop! The bathroom amenities are basic but do the trick for sure.There is a little stream in the garden, nature surrounds the cottage as well as other accommodation spaces on the property but it still felt very private. Heather the host was very welcoming and friendly. She was available if needed and quick to respond.
