The famous Whakarewarewa Forest (the Redwoods) is just moments away, with world-class mountain biking, walking and running trails and the renowned Redwoods Treewalk. Despite the peaceful surroundings, you're still an easy drive from supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and Rotorua's main attractions - the lakes, geothermal parks and adventure activities. It's the perfect base for guests who want the best of both worlds.
Getting Around:
A car is recommended - the cottage is in a quiet area away from public transport, but most of Rotorua's attractions are a short drive. For mountain bikers, the big drawcard is being able to ride straight onto the Redwoods trail network from the property. By car, Te Puia is about 8 minutes away, the Waiariki and Polynesian spas around 10, Rotorua Airport about 10, and Skyline, ZORB and Canopy Tours roughly 16.
Other Things to Note:
A few things worth knowing: Whare Marie is a rural cottage on a working lifestyle farm block with farm animals - horses, cattle and sheep - so the usual farm hazards exist outside the cottage garden area. The property is on the opposite side of Tarawera Road to one of the mountain-bike forest entrances, so if you're accessing the forest from the cottage, take extreme care crossing - it's a busy road with fast-moving vehicles. There's a heat pump, secure bike storage in the garage, and WiFi at around 108 Mbps.
