Ngongotahā is known for its fishing, with Lake Rotorua offering excellent rainbow and brown trout opportunities and easy boat access. The Ngongotahā Stream is a popular fishing spot, especially during spawning season.

Nature lovers will enjoy the nearby Mt Ngongotahā Scenic Reserve, featuring walking tracks through native bush and panoramic views of Rotorua. The Skyline Gondola and Luge are also close by, offering a mix of scenic beauty and adventure. Other nearby attractions include geothermal parks, The Redwoods for forest walks and mountain biking, and several other lakes perfect for swimming and kayaking.

Guests will have exclusive access to the entire property throughout their stay, including all indoor and outdoor areas. The only exception is the locked shed, which is not available for guest use.

Ngongotahā is more of a rural village than a city suburb, so public transit is limited. Here’s what’s available:

Bus Service: Rotorua has a local bus network operated by Baybus, and Ngongotahā is on a main route. Buses run between Ngongotahā and Rotorua city center, but service is limited compared to larger cities (usually every 30–60 minutes during the day, fewer in the evenings).

Taxis and Rideshares: Local taxi services and rideshares like Uber and Ola are available, though wait times may be longer outside the city center.

Car is Recommended: Most guests prefer having their own vehicle, especially if they plan to explore multiple lakes, attractions, and scenic spots in the Rotorua region.
